Emergency Response

Herat Province Earthquake October 2023

We are prepared to provide emergency assistance in all crisis situations in Afghanistan.  We have a team of volunteers and partner organizations on the ground who can handle any disaster situation.

The recent earthquakes in Herat province, Afghanistan, have resulted in a dire situation for the local population. On October 7, 2023, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake and a subsequent strong quake struck the province, causing significant destruction and loss of life. Over 1,000 people, primarily women and children, were killed, and approximately 21,000 homes were destroyed (per UNICEF Report), leaving many families without shelter and livelihoods.

An earthquake struck the southeastern region of Afghanistan on June 22, 2022. The earthquake has devastated Paktika and Khost provinces. As a result, 1036 deaths and 2949 injuries were reported by the media. Hundreds of families lost their homes. People are experiencing a harsh winter this year, 2023. Through our partner in Afghanistan, we conducted a survey for the most needed families of Barmal district of Paktika, who were affected by the earthquake and distributed winterization kits to 100 families. This included blankets and cash of $145 to each family for heating material.

By investing in education, we can create a better future for ourselves and others
