Age: 7 | First Grade

He was Sorting materials from garbage for recycling (plastic, metal, and papers) making 40 Afs ($0.46) per day.

He says, “I want to be a footballer. I want to bring trophies to my country and my mother will be proud of me. It is a good sport and will keep me healthy.”

His father sells vegetables and makes 150 Afs ($1.74) per day.

Age: 8 | First Grade

She was selling plastic bags on the streets making 40 Afs ($0.46) per day.

She says, “I want to become a doctor to treat people for free. My father got injured in an explosion and he died because we didn’t have enough money for his treatment and doctors did not help us.”

Her father was killed in an explosion and her mother cleans houses for 100 to 200 Afs ($1.15 to $2.32) per day.

He says, “I want to become a Police Officer in the future. I want to take care of my people and help those in need. I want to serve my country.”

His father was selling water near the hospital, and he was killed by an explosion. His mother is cleaning houses making…. To support her 6 children.

Fazila

Age: 6 | First Grade

She was selling plastic bags on the streets making 70 Afs ($0.81) per day.

She says, “I want to become a teacher in the future. There are many children in our area who don’t have the chance to continue their education, so I want to teach all children. Now I am studying in a school, and I am happy, but my friends still working outside.”

Her father works as a daily worker (he waits on the side of the street for people to pick him up for a daily job of construction, painting, cleaning…etc.) making 150 Afs ($1.74) per day.

Khalid

Age: 8 | First Grade

He was collecting cans from trash and elsewhere making 40 Afs ($0.46) per day.

He says, “I want to become an Engineer in the future. I want to build beautiful buildings. Our home is made of mud and when it’s raining, we are afraid that its ceiling will collapse one day, so I want to build a beautiful house for my family.”

His father sells corn making 150 Afs ($1.74) per day.
