Over Twenty Years of Educational Impact
Aid Afghanistan For Education (AAFE) has spent more than two decades expanding educational access for underserved communities. From 2004 to 2021, AAFE ran an accelerated education program in Afghanistan that helped more than 7,000 girls—many excluded because of age, marital status, or lack of documentation—resume their studies and pursue new opportunities. The initiative also equipped teachers with the skills to deliver accelerated learning through more interactive and effective classroom instruction.
In 2021, following the Taliban’s return to power, AAFE was forced to shut down its office in Afghanistan and end the program. While this was a major disruption, it did not bring our work to a halt.
In 2022, AAFE registered in the United States and reshaped its approach to meet urgent new needs. Today, the organization supports some of Afghanistan’s most marginalized children through two key initiatives: helping street-working children enroll in private schools and offering online English and computer courses to girls who have been denied access to education.
Timeline
We began our work with providing educational material to the Afghan refugee camps in Pakistan in 1995.
By investing in education, we are investing in ourselves and in the future of a better Afghanistan.
Students
After carefully designing a unique and one-of-a-kind program, we reached out to 7000 students in 13 schools in 9 provinces. In our student intake process, we learned that girls and women were not allowed to complete their high school due to marital status, age, or lack of documentation because they were displaced due to decades of war.
Our programs helped them gain the necessary skills needed to support their families and their own personal goal.
Graduations
Over 2700 students graduated with an official high school certificate from the Ministry of Education. Most graduates pursued their higher education at various universities in Afghanistan and some of them received scholarships to go abroad. Others returned to AAFE to become teachers and advocates of the program!
Teacher Training

Our 210 teachers underwent regular training to transform the learning and classroom environment. To foster an interactive learning environment, we provided thorough and ongoing teacher training for 210 teachers with updated content that complimented the rote and memorization methods of learning traditionally used in Afghanistan education systems.
